This mace is an illusion. Well, its crystals are real enough -- as are the brutal wounds they create. But its true color is crimson. You just wanted it to match the rest of your illusionary attire. Some might call that a frivolous use of an illusionist's time and the money required to pay his fee. But fashion is important.
One must always be cautious when purchasing weaponry that's draped in illusions. A scrupulous merchant will ensure good quality armaments lie beneath the sorcerous facade, but dishonest ones would think nothing of having a rotten piece of wood wrapped in a mighty crystal guise.
Illusionists make a tremendous amount of coin by working their magic and giving people counterfeit beauty or else the appearance of other races. Such enchantments cause endless delight at balls and festivals. But the most powerful masters of illusion can go a step further, and daub you in in phantom flesh and crystal which will bestow a portion of a true oroc's hardiness.
Although oroc breasts are vestigial, and serve no useful purpose other than to attract the stares of males from other races, it appears that nature or the hand of the divine saw fit to apply just enough crystal to maintain a vague sense of decency.
Lonely men with more wealth than charm, who have too much pride or embarrassment to be seen hiring harlots, are said to sometimes satisfy themselves by having illusions cast over their hands -- making them feel like those of an exotic stranger.
If your loins are wrapped in nothing but illusionary flesh and cloth, does that mean you're naked? An interesting metaphysical question. In any event, you hope the illusion doesn't unexpectedly expire. That could be awkward...
In the old days, illusionists used to charge a nominal fee and in return envelop a customer's entire body in their chosen disguise. Alas, they came to realize that it was much more profitable to charge for each body part.
The jeweler who sold you this ring charged a steep price, but he assured you that it contains valuable diamonds underneath the complimentary illusion which are worth twice as much. He seemed like a jovial fellow. In fact, when you left his shop he roared with laughter -- no doubt in philanthropic pleasure at the thought of the good deal he was giving you.
You're not quite sure what animal lurks under the illusion. It can certainly dig like a giant mole... Perhaps a badger? Or maybe a giant rabbit? Though it doesn't really jump like a rabbit. In any event, it's comfortable to ride and serves well enough in battle -- so you can live with the mystery. You just hope it isn't a skunk...
