Lore
1. Grasha the Ukrak-Breaker heard rumors of a dormant gate to the black depths buried under layers of ancient earthen strata. It would take an oroc several weeks to dig through many levels of sedimentary rocks to reach that gate. However, she knew Gyzix and his clan were known for their specialized bores that they shaped from the fossils of their ancestors. For that clan, digging into the deepest part of Tor’gyyl would only take them days.
So Grasha sent Gyzix and his coterie to tunnel towards the ancient gate and destroy it. But the gateway to the black depths was already active when the group unearthed it. The demons poured out of the hell portal and seized the orocs. |
2. When the demons of hell captured both Gyzix and his clan they were brought into the deepest parts of the black depths, where not even the brightest light could penetrate. The demons wished to turn their oroc prisoners into demonic breeding cattle to birth insidious hybrids that would inherit their crystals.
The demons chained Gyzix and his brethren then disemboweled them. The fiends of hell infused the crystalline bodies of the orocs with demonic organs and vile magic to match their hell-born biology, combining and recombining over and over. The orocs screamed each time they were ripped apart and reassembled. The despicable creatures of the dark depths took delight in their malign experiments. |
3. After the demonic experiments were over, the hell fiends began mating Gyzix and his imprisoned brethren with the grotesque creatures of the depths to birth the coveted hybrids. Each torment, each punishment, each brutality that the demons afflicted upon the orocs served to feed the rage of Gyzix and his desire for vengeance.
One day, the crystals on the orocs grew dim as their bodies petrified into impregnable unmoving stone. The demons thought their experiments failed, and that Gyzix and his kin had perished. But in actuality, the orocs hibernated, dreaming of the day they would return to their crystalline homeland under West Kruna. |
"We Twilight orocs hibernate so that our crystals may regenerate, because from time to time the ukrak parts inside our bodies become too toxic for us to convert their dark energies into light. At times we dream of the glorious crystal kingdom, but as a vague distorted shape that we cannot reach. Other times we dream of a light that whispers to us in a tongue we do not understand. After we awaken from our sleep, we leave behind a shell of our bodies, and emerge anew with a brightness that could glimmer in any darkness." -- Gyzix of the Twilight orocs |
"The ukrak tried to poison our bodies, corrupt them so that we may become vile simulacrums of their kind. But they underestimated the power of our birthright we inherited from our elemental ancestors. The crystals on our bodies harmonized the darkness, converting them into light that we use to fight the ukrak. It is our weapon, the hope that obliterates the fiends into dust." -- Gyzix of the Twilight orocs |
4. "During our time in black depths, the ukrak imprisoned us in hellfire forged chains, which were strong enough to subdue even an angel. But after our first hibernation, we emerged anew: stronger, incandescent and unstoppable. When we broke our bindings so effortlessly, we knew that even the ukrak could not contain our crystalline power." -- Gyzix of the Twilight orocs |
5. "Very few Twilight orocs possess the ability to walk in dreams, %name%, but it allows us to commune with others at great distances, and sometimes between planes of reality. It was how I was able to reach out to Grasha on the eve of our escape from the black depths, and told her that we were coming home from the same ancient gateway that we had excavated before. I told her to send whatever forces she could to aid in our egress, and she replied she would be there personally to welcome us home by grinding the vile ukrak beneath her feet." -- Gyzix of the Twilight orocs |
"Do not tell the other orocs, %name%... Sometimes I see disturbing things in my sleep. I tell myself they are only nightmares, but the vision I see chills me so deep that even the light of my crystal core cannot soothe me. There is a beast that slumbers, something ancient and beyond our history. It bears our crystals, it bears the blood of the ukrak, and it bears a forbidden lineage. It cries out in pain and it hungers for our flesh. I fear that there is something under the black depths that even the ukrak fear, and it will one day arise to devour us all..." -- The confession of Gyzix |
When Twilight orocs enter into a chrysalis state with injuries too grievous, they do not emerge with their humanoid crystal bodies. Instead, the wounded orocs are reborn into stallions who shine magnificently in both darkness and light. |
