Lore from Erebean's Set |
---|
6. The black drake wrought fresh atrocities upon the face of Tor'gyyl. Those seething souls hurled their abominable new form, their shared flesh and fury, into the tempest of war. And their ferocity made even their own kind tremble. But though many dead drakes were bound together, united in their living damnation, Erebus' rage was the blazing heart of their maelstrom. Wrath endured where sanity and identity did not. It grasped them all, ensnaring them in its tendrils and worming deep into their shared consciousness. |
7. That immense, unrelenting hatred inflamed every sliver of their tangled souls. For each of them had tasted failure, endured defeat -- felt insurmountable shame when the very beings they sought to crush and conquer vanquished them. So they rampaged across the land. They tried to drown their failure in the blood of innocent and warrior alike, spreading atrocities wherever they flew. But no crimson seas could wash it away. Only one deed, one victory, one death could cleanse and sate them. Their black beating heart demanded it. They had to destroy %name%. |
1.Erebus longed to rule West Kruna. His malevolent blue eyes gazed out across the kingdom and his wicked mind yearned for the day when it would be filled with the worshipful chant of his name -- when gigantic statues graven in his image would tower above the towns and cities of the lesser races So it was that he urged his people to war, and murdered Erimdes when that drake stood in his path. He silenced the voices of opposition, leaving only the roar of those who dreamed as he dreamed. |
2. Who could record all that Erebus did in the first war? The blood he spilled would soak the pages of a dozen chronicles. He fought with all the savage fury of his black heart, wrought massacres upon the weak and dared to clash against even the strongest foes. But all his murderous might was no match for the machinations of fate, or its chosen agents upon the face of Tor'gyyl -- the great heroes of the age. And so he was forced to withdraw for millennia of sleep alongside the other dragons, his slumbering mind filled with visions of glories he still believed would come. |
3. When the new drake war began, Erebus reddened his teeth and claws -- destroying those villages so cursed as to be placed within his path. But Fallows was his true goal. He longed to drown the streets of that great settlement with crimson, to satisfy his bloodlust and carve out a vast swath of territory for his kind. Yet once again destiny was set against him. <player name>, the the dragon-rider of Burden's Rest, slew Erebus within sight of its walls -- spilled the black wyrm's blood and slaughtered his army. It was the beginning of the hero's fame, and seemed the end of Erebus' dreams of tyranny |
4.But Erebus did not rest easy in the netherworld, that realm where souls find peace, rage or anguish according to their nature and desserts. He roared and screamed, howled and thrashed crying out for his minions to raise him-- that he might avenge himself against <player name> and continue his path of bloodshed. The cry did not go unanswered. The beastman's necromancers returned him to the world, though his spirit had been tainted by the supernatural power of his malevolence. It was a twisted altered beast that met the dragon-rider in battle once more--and was slain yet again. |
5.Even another death couldn't quell the dark drake's fury, couldn't compel him to accept his fate. His spirit was black and bitter, his mind drowned in rage.
His cries were thrice as dreadful as before, all the vestiges of sanity stripped away. He became a mindless monster and so his spirit lost the strength of its identity. When he was raised once more, drawn from that place of the dead by necromantic magic, his soul bled into those of the other drakes who too longed for their return to life. Thus melded , corrupted abomination of a being emerged from the underworld--the powers and evil of many dragons, all encased within Erebus' ebon flesh. |
8. The dragon-rider's army, that host of loyal friends and brave allies, wasn't difficult to find. For each day %his% warriors charged across the battlefields and clashed with the strongest of the dragons' legions. Thus the ebon drake -- imprisoning shell and murderous weapon to all those who lay within -- plunged into the fray. Screaming souls raged and rose to the surface of their twisted brain in turn, each bringing forth the might and dark powers they'd possessed in life. One by one they unleashed every ounce of malevolent strength and sorcery that slithered through their corrupted carcass. But %name% and %his% heroes overcame them all. Scales shattered, draconic bones broke, and their intertwined essences gushed forth with the blood and gore. Entangled spirits tumbled back into the underworld like a nest of hissing vipers. |
9. %name% had triumphed. Yet that battle was his foes' salvation as well as their destruction. For when each of them rose up in search of victory and vengeance, when each tortured spirit grasped mastery within the black scales, the sparks of their identities became roaring fires. Their souls plunged through the netherworld and crashed down in the chthonic dust. There they split apart, sundered by the very anger, the same hatred, that first corrupted them. For no single entity could sustain such malevolence. Thus Erebus' spirit broke free, and seethed alone once more in that darkest and most terrible of places. |
