7. "What're they-" Lia whispered. Gern waved her into silence. He grasped his shovel with both hands, took a deep breath, and tiptoed down the narrow, overgrown path. Ahead was a small space encircled by trees. A man and woman in dark leather garb stood there, hunched over at the door of an old granite crypt. "Damn!" the woman said. Her back was to the gravedigger, concealing her hands. But the clicking of her tools told of frantic, fumbling movement. "Gnomish lock! These are tricky..." "Make it quick!" the man said. He peered over her shoulder. "I hate these places!" "Then stick to robbing houses," Gern said, "instead of the grave!"
