| This breastplate was worn by the first champion of the Colosseum, bequeathed to the arena upon his death. For centuries it rested on its stand, witnessing the glories and demises of generations of gladiators. At the end of each fight, a drop of blood from both survivor and slain vanquisher and vanquished, was rubbed across its metal. Thus it has absorbed the essence of warriors, awaiting the day when a hero might be worthy enough to claim it. | |
